SNAP! was excellent. The weekend was excellent. And well, everything is excellent right now.

Dan and Katie Merrit could not have been better hosts. They are the organizers of SNAP! and they also operate the infamous comic store in Dearborn, Michigan known as Green Brain Comics. They held a pre-party in the shop the night before the show and I feel pretty confident in saying it is the most impressive comic shop I have phyisically browsed. It's large, at least 50% indy books, and they even have a lounge for readers to hang out in.

The show itself was dually notable. Admittedly, I had low expectations for this first year show, but Dan and Katie must have done an excellent job promoting it. The turnout was solid. I suppose it helps that they are known names on the indie comic circuit. Nonetheless, it was lots of fun, I did quite well, and without question will be returning next year.

Before the pre-party Friday night, we drove out to Lansing to see [info]theextra's gallery show. There is one I want to buy, but I don't think she'll give it up.

I think I'm trying to look mysterious.

Jo. Pssht. She thinks she hot shit.

People at SNAP!
This is a terrible photo. My bad. Tables from left to right:
- Jo and the distant left.
- Then, my table obviously.
- Then, Bob Corby caught off guard - best known for being the organizer of SPACE - it was rather fun talking with him.
- And finally Paul Sizer on the far right table - he's currently promoting Moped Army.

I was amused to see you directly across from Arsenic Lullaby. It might have been possible to find two comics that I like with more unmatching tones, but it would have been difficult.

I still doubt anything will top Terry Moore's first table at the Motor City Comic Con several years ago, when he was across from GWAR's island.

I remember you saying you would be there. Did we talk? I can't put the lj to the name/face yet.

A little, although having forgotten that I said I would be there, I utterly failed to identify myself.

I bought Lackluster World #1 at SPX 2004. I bought all three issues on Saturday. That was about it. I even decided (at the last minute) not to wear my Halloween costume, so I was more nondescript than usual.

Heya.
Yeah. I have a lot to do before I can officially start selling my paintings and whatnot. I'm going to be looking into making prints of my artwork...there's a technique where you can transfer it absolutely perfectly onto a vinyl canvas. The only sucky thing about it is that I love to be able to have people interact with my paintings (well, some people) and be able to touch the various textures that I put into them. But once I start up with everything, I'll let you know and we can talk then. :) Hopefully by early next year I'll have stuff going on.
Take care,
Sam

ok note to self, attend SNAP in the future. Part of my thing with cons is I need to learn how to setup a table and whatnot. I want to finish my comics and be able to do the con circuit eventually, I need to learn about these things. Any suggestions where I can learn some of this from, or do you think being there is the best thing I could do?

I try not to act like a pro when it comes to creating comics, but that is not the case when it comes to promoting/marketing them at conventions or anywhere else. I wrote up this article about being a small presser at cons. You will probably find it useful:

I have something related to this coming up in a few weeks, but it's a little too soon to talk about it.

I did. Sadly, it wasn't very indy though. It was a couple issues of Desolation Jones.
